Women's cardiovascular research platform

Heart medicine wasn't built for women. Heartwise is changing that.

A free app that turns 30 seconds of daily logging into a cardiovascular dataset built around women — including the menstrual cycle most research ignores.

The gap

A thirty-year hole in what medicine knows about women's hearts.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in women. Yet until 1993, federal law did not require women to be included in the clinical research that shaped how hearts are diagnosed and treated — so much of that science was built on men. Women are still more likely to have a heart attack missed or symptoms dismissed, in part because the data was never collected.

How it works

Log it. Learn it. Live it.

Log it

30 seconds a day

Sleep, stress, caffeine, symptoms, your cycle. No medical jargon, no devices required — just a few taps.

Learn it

See your own patterns

Heartwise surfaces trends in your own data over time, so you can see how rest, stress, and your cycle move with your heart.

Live it

Power the research

Every entry also joins a women's cardiovascular cohort — building the research that should have existed decades ago.

What you log

Everything you track — and why it matters for your heart.

Sleep

Recovery · HRV

Sleep is when your heart recovers. Short or broken sleep is linked to higher blood pressure and lower heart-rate variability — a key marker of cardiovascular resilience.

Caffeine

Timing · heart rate

Caffeine can briefly raise heart rate and blood pressure, and when you have it matters as much as how much. Logging timing reveals your own response.

Water

Blood volume · heart

Hydration shapes blood volume, which affects how hard your heart has to work. Even mild dehydration can nudge heart rate up.

Stress

Cortisol · HRV

Stress drives cortisol, which influences blood pressure, heart rate, and heart-rate variability over time. Noting it links how you feel to what your heart is doing.

Cycle

Phase, day · symptoms

Hormones across your cycle shift heart rate, HRV, and blood-vessel tone — yet most heart research ignores the cycle entirely. Tracking phase, day, and symptoms is core to what makes Heartwise different.

Movement

VO2 max · heart

Regular movement is one of the strongest protectors of cardiovascular health, and it shapes measures like VO2 max. Logging it shows how activity relates to your other signals.

Drinks

Alcohol · heart rhythm

Alcohol is associated with higher blood pressure and can trigger palpitations or irregular rhythms in some people. Tracking it surfaces patterns you might otherwise miss.

Breathwork

HRV · vagal tone

Slow, controlled breathing activates the vagus nerve and can raise heart-rate variability — a sign of a flexible, resilient heart. Logging it tracks that effect over time.

Learn

Know your heart.

Women's symptoms look different

Women more often experience fatigue, nausea, shortness of breath, or jaw and back pain rather than classic chest pain — and are more likely to have a heart attack misdiagnosed.

Your cycle and your heart

Across the cycle, hormones shift heart rate, heart-rate variability, and blood-vessel tone. Tracking it puts every other reading in context.

Trends beat snapshots

A single reading bounces around. Patterns over weeks tell the real story — and that's what Heartwise helps you see.

Educational only — not medical advice.
Your data

Private by default. Yours, always.

We never sell your personal data

Your name, email, and identifiable records are never sold. Heartwise is funded by licensing de-identified, aggregated research data — partners never receive anything that identifies you. If we ever introduce anything else, we'll tell you plainly first.

Encrypted in transit and at rest

Your entries are encrypted in transit and at rest, stored securely.

You're in control

Export or delete your data anytime. Research participation is opt-in and tied to consent you give and can withdraw.

Built to research-ethics standards

Heartwise is built to independent research-ethics standards, with formal IRB review planned before any research data is shared.

For researchers

A cohort built for the questions you can't answer anywhere else.

Heartwise is assembling a longitudinal, consented, cycle-aware cardiovascular cohort of women — engaged, well-characterized, and logging over time.

  • Clinical-trial recruitment from an engaged participant base
  • De-identified, structured longitudinal data access
  • Research collaborations and co-authorship

Founder's note

A note from Grace, founder of Heartwise

In my senior year of high school, I took a women's health class — and for the first time, I learned that heart disease looks completely different in women than in men. The symptoms are different. The warning signs are different. But for decades, the treatment, the research, and the diagnostic criteria have all been built around men.

Women are still being sent home from ERs with undiagnosed heart attacks. Still being told their symptoms are anxiety. Still dying at higher rates after cardiac events — partly because the data to help them simply doesn't exist yet.

I built Heartwise to change that. Every log submitted is a data point that has never existed before. Women who use this app aren't just tracking their health — they're helping build the evidence that will change how women's heart disease is treated and diagnosed for generations to come.

The arc

How a thirty-year gap gets closed

1993
Women enter the research
The NIH Revitalization Act finally required women in federally funded clinical research. By then, decades of cardiovascular science had already been built without them.
2026
Heartwise opens
The cohort begins. Every log — sleep, stress, caffeine, cycle — becomes a data point in a cardiovascular dataset designed around women from the very first entry.
Next
The cohort deepens
As women log over months and years, patterns emerge that single-snapshot studies miss — how cycle phase, rest, and stress move cardiovascular signals over time.
Ahead
Research that changes care
A women's cardiovascular dataset open to qualified researchers — and findings that reshape how women are screened, diagnosed, and treated.
Questions

The honest answers

Is Heartwise really free?

Yes. No subscription, and we never sell your personal information. Heartwise is funded by licensing de-identified, aggregated research data to research partners — including academic institutions and commercial organizations. They never receive anything that identifies you. You're funded by the research, not the other way around.

Is my data safe?

Your entries are encrypted in transit and at rest. You can export or delete your data anytime, and research use is opt-in through consent you control and can withdraw.

Do I need a wearable or device?

No. Logging takes about 30 seconds a day on your phone. If you do use a wearable, you'll be able to connect it later.

What's the science?

Heartwise builds a longitudinal, cycle-aware cardiovascular dataset for women — the kind that has historically been missing — so patterns can be studied over time rather than in a single snapshot.

Who's behind it?

Heartwise is an independent platform (Heartwise LLC) founded to close the gender gap in cardiovascular research.
